Dr. Beyer has more than 20 years of experience providing expert orthodontic treatment to help kids and teens achieve their perfect smile. Here is a closer look at why you might consider orthodontic treatment for your children — and what you can expect with Dr. Beyer and his professional treatment team.
Kids & Orthodontic Treatment
When it comes to kids, the timing of orthodontic treatment is extremely important. Early treatment can mean better results in less time and at a reduced cost. It’s a win-win-win.
Since no two patients are alike, there is no specific age that is best to begin treatment with braces. That said, The American Association of Orthodontists recommends your child first see an orthodontist at age 7 or earlier. While your child’s teeth might appear straight, there may be much more going on under the surface. Orthodontists such as Dr. Beyer have completed extensive education beyond dental school and have the expertise to evaluate issues that might become problems later.
Issues to watch for include:
- Early or late loss of baby teeth
- Difficulty chewing or biting
- Mouth breathing
- Jaws that shift or make sounds
- Thumb or finger sucking
- Difficulty breathing
- Biting the cheek or the roof of the mouth
- Facial imbalance
- Grinding or clenching of the teeth
Many children will not require treatment or need braces at the time they are evaluated, but may in the future. Young patients should return periodically for follow-up examinations so we can stay on top of their evolve oral health.
The good news is that you do not need a referral from your dentist or physician to make an appointment at Commonwealth Orthodontics. Simply contact us to schedule a consultation for our Midlothian / Chesterfield or Colonial Heights office.
Teens & Orthodontic Treatment
Today teens have more treatment options than ever before to correct bite problems and other orthodontic issues. And that’s great news, because as children grow over, there are more and more reasons to pursue orthodontic treatment, ranging from serious health issues to asthetic concerns and even maximizing self confidence at such a critical age.
Options for teens needing treatment include Invisalign Teen clear aligners, clear braces, and even the ability to customize the look of orthodontic appliances with colored elastics.
We utilize the latest technology that allows us to reduce the time most patients spend in braces. This starts with our iTero Intraoral 3D Scanner, which can quickly and accurately create molds for braces, mouth guards and Invisalign. This comfortable and cutting-edge scanner works digitally, meaning that the goop and gagging you might remember is no longer part of the orthodontic experience.
What this all means is that your teen gets a new smile faster, with fewer appointments and disruptions to your schedule. It’s what we call “Simply. Better. Smiles.” And when your teen’s treatment is completed, we provide them with Invisalign retainers that only need to be worn while sleeping so their smile stays in place.
